Favourite five spiritual books? (Only allowed five?!). I’m going to cheat here a bit – they’re not necessarily books about spirituality, but, rather, books which mean a lot to me spiritually. Here goes – Alfred Bloom ‘Shinran’s Gospel of Pure Grace’ – inspirational about trust, goes everywhere with me, as does ‘Kuan Yin’ by Manuela Dunn Mascetti (my son bought it for me and it’s been ‘all over the world’ with me including Japan, China, USA); ‘Brideshead Revisited’ by Evelyn Waugh (not just a novel about impossibly posh people, but a fantastic account of spiritual conversion); Louis Fischer’s biography of Gandhi (still, despite his flaws, the ‘main man’ in so many ways); ‘Mandarin Gate’ by Eliot Pattison (thriller set in Tibet, hugely uplifting). If I’m allowed a poem, Gary Snyder’s ‘ At White River Roadhouse in the Yukon’ – quiet, very small scale, short, yet the best thing about the bodhisattva path ever, in my view! Thanks for asking, Satya! Love and NAB.
