Recently I have been having a tough time. I asked for help to find compassion for the person at the root of this heart break. Not an easy thing to do. However, I have beeb quietly reading my way around the temple and somehow life is quieter, smoother and I think maybe I found some compassion for myself as well. Now I wonder is this normal ? Whatever it seems to have helped but I do not understand why. Can anyone shed any light on how compassion comes when you are simply spending time here.

    • Because we are gently held by the Buddha and we really get the sense of that here (even though it’s happening all the time, in actuality). May Quan Shi Yin also hold you with compassion and pour her healing balm over you _/l\_

    • Hello Elaine
I also find just looking round reading the comments and making the occidental comment is soothing. Maybe it’s because what we are really doing is studying the dharma and this teaches us mindfulness without even realising. Or just knowing that we are part of a community who all care about us. Or maybe both and more.

    • What Sujatin & Andrew said : ) pleased to hear this Elaine – in my experience if something seems to be good for me, even if I don’t understand why, I try to follow the thread…
