The Service organised by Sanghamitra last Saturday was most welcome Richard and John from the Birmingham sangha also attending the zoom meeting. It brought some normality into what is at the moment an extremely abnormal world for me. After the service we discussed a teaching of Dharmavidia, and the conversation got around to impermanence and our mortality. This is a difficult subject in these times, but one I’m having to deal with on a daily basis at present, as we all are. My work as one of three people managing a crisis line in Birmingham reminds me of the suffering we endure during this world wide pandemic, in my own family I watch my children and grandchildren suffer; not just from the social isolation but also my ex wife, their mother/grandmother has lung cancer so has to have complete isolation for three months. This makes it all the more difficult as they are unable to see her and offer the emotional support they would like. One of the people afflicted with this terrible virus is my children’s uncle, he survives only through the expertise of medical staff as he struggles for life in a ventilator, tonight his family will hold a candlelight vigil at 1900 British Time. If you have time perhaps you too could light a candle for John and all the people that are suffering in the world at the moment; as it’s Monday Nembutsu we could chant even for a short time as we do this at 1900.
May all the Buddhas be with us now and always.
