Activity

Working with a group of people last week I was reminded of the Koan where a man falls down, when he asks for help from his daughter she sits on the floor next to him. Kaspa spoke of this when I was talking to him about helping homeless people in Birmingham. The reason I thought of the teaching was that I wanted to give a training session to the group of service users. They just kept telling me about issues with the various groups and activities they run. I was actually getting cross when the thought came to me. Wouldn’t it be better to listen to what they have to say. Maybe getting this off their minds would do more good than the training. So I gave each one time to tell me about their groups the good and the bad and how they could be supported. At the end of the morning they seemed a lot more relaxed and happier in themselves. A reminder of the lesson from Kaspa give people what they need not what I think they need.
