On Sunday I attended an interfaith meeting as part of the interfaith week celebration. It was held at a Temple and hosted by Footsteps which is an ecological sub group of Birmingham Council of Faiths. A number of community groups attended and there was an excellent turn out that included a leading birmingham councillor. Interesting to hear of…[Read more]

My life at the moment is complicated and confused, my ex wife was diagnosed with lung cancer at the beginning of this year, she has bravely fought the illness and continues to do so. Watching the woman who had my four children, and who I shared my adult life with, go through this saddens me. I worry for my children and grandchildren and how they…[Read more]

Another work day, I look forward to the weekend then there is time to relax, reflection on my week and make plans for the week ahead. Is this selfish I often ask myself how I crave for the peacefulness of the weekend, get up later and take much pleasure in spoiling myself one way or another. I work hard all week so deserve this surely. But then I…[Read more]

It’s fine campaigning for what you believe in. In fact it’s a necessary action when your not being listened to. Problem for me is how many campaigns can you be involved in before it all becomes too much for us and we burn out. Some of the actions of the recent demonstrations in London and for that matter around the country have inspired me, mad…[Read more]

This Thursday is world mental health day. The theme this year is suicide prevention.
Such a shame that so many people feel that taking their own life is easier than living. -

What do you mean by different for past addicts. And why do you think that is, if you don’t mind me asking.

Nice to visit the Malvern sangha today. Service was peaceful and the dharma talk afterwards by Satya gave me a lot to contemplate on.

Went to listen to Bhikkhu Bhodi this afternoon. Well worth going and really enjoyed the talk and questions session.
Bhikkhu Bodhi (born December 10, 1944), born Jeffrey Block, is an American Theravada Buddhist monk, ordained in Sri Lanka and currently teaching in the New York and New Jersey area. He was appointed the second president of the…[Read more] -

On a train to Leeds for a time to change conference. Wouldn’t it be nice if we really could put an end to mental health discrimination.

The sign of a foolish being, starting the Monday Nembutsu on Tuesday but still giving Monday’s date.
For me this week I spent time at the Vihara and thought of ways to encourage anti stigma around mental health events. Such a high rate of men taking their own life is disturbing.

Thanks for sharing Andrew. Namo Amida Bu
I think if you use the free weekend to rest, take courage and energy to be able to do your job the next week and to reflect on what you did and shall do, there is no matter of selfishness, as you are just trying to do good and to be able to continue that… letting body and mind relax after work is natural and good.
