The ongoing volcanic eruption here in Hawaii is surreal. For past several days we have been able to hear and feel the thunder and roar of the eruptions occurring eight miles away. On Thursday the sulfur dioxide was so heavy that it was hard to breath at the response center in the town a few miles from the active eruption.

Today, Friday, the eruption is very active with multiple fissures fountaining lava and a fast moving lava flow that has now crossed a road and stranded a small neighborhood. The horizon is alight with a fiery red glow.

A couple of thousand individuals have been displaced by the eruption. Fortunately, no one died. There are, however, many people who have lost everything and are stressed and grieving.

Please dedicate merit to all the folks who have been impacted by this eruption.

    Namo Amida Bu!

    • I can’t imagine it, Ananda. We transferred merit after our nembutsu circle last night, and will do so again this week. We’re also holding you all in our thoughts and hearts. Sending lots of love, Satya

      • Mahalo Satya. It is a bit weird to contemplate the possibility of living within 10 miles of an actively erupting volcano for the foreseeable future. Namo Amida Bu!

    • We dedicated merit at First U this morning. Keeping you in mind. Stay safe.
