Ian and me arrived back from our week in Belgium, visiting family, late Sunday afternoon. Not having our own time, space and routine so much while away, I had to find different ways to practise. Using the breath and silent Nembutsu as I walked worked well for me, avoiding the bewildered feeling I often get when I feel unable to practise. On Tuesday we took the opportunity to visit Jikoji Pureland Temple in Antwerp, which was a shortish train journey away. I gave good wishes from Amida Shu and they returned them to us. The shrine room there is really beautiful – everything was supplied by Hongwangi in Japan – they also have an impressive library. In the hallway is an enormous piece of jade, carved with the life of Shakyamuni Buddha, so heavy it is cracking the floor. Namo Amida Bu!
