Namo Amida Bu. We’ll never forget this year’s Bodhi retreat here at the temple, as on the day of the ordinations we woke to 6 inches of snow… Props to everyone in this photo who made it, especially the person previously known as Emma who walked 4 miles across the hills from her house!
There was lots of good news. Acharya Modgala (standing to the right of the Buddha) has ‘retired’ from the position of Deputy Head of the Order after many years of work for Amida Shu and will now be known as a Mahasiddha. Acharya Susthama (to the right of Dharmavidya) has been promoted to fill this role. We have a new editor for the Running Tide magazine, Rev. Ananda in Hawaii.
We also welcomed Lolly, Rob and John to the Shu, Caz took refuge, and we had our first two Amida Shu Junior members (Selena on the bottom left and her brother Dorian).
Finally we had a snowy morning of ordinations. Emma (bottom right) became a Gankonin and was given the name Khemashalini, also known as Khema (pronounced kay-ma). Kusuma also became a Gankonin, and Sanghamitra became a Minister (both just to the left of the Buddha). Finally Kaspalita was made an Acharya, a teacher – in a very moving ceremony with Dharmavidya.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Many thanks to all the sangha members who made the week possible with all their help. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
You can watch the ceremony yourself here. Any questions, just reply to this email.
